Today we did a speaking exercise, a
formal vs informal exercise, and went over verb tenses. The speaking exercise
consisted of a scenario that made Dasom think up something on the spot. I feel
like that was a little bit out of her comfort zone, so it was good that we did
that! (Although next time I should probably try to get her to talk more. ^^;
She really didn’t like having to make something up without any preparation.)
Then I had an exercise on what to say to your friend and what to say to your
strict teacher in the same situation.
For
the verb tenses, Dasom wanted to compare Present Perfect, Present Perfect
Continuous, and Simple Past. That actually proved to be a little harder than I
expected. I used a time line to explain it and the different contexts/possible
meanings:
“I
have learned English” = I still know English
“I
have been learning English” = Still in the process
“I
learned English” = Maybe I still know it, maybe I don’t. It’s not specified.
I’m pretty sure after a few more
examples she understood the differences.
Again, I think it was a good tutoring
session! I think I need to prepare more materials though, especially for
speaking. She works fast!
