I met Hani after class last Thursday at the Sweet Shop. I picked out an article on NatGeo Kids that I thought he would find interesting. But we ended up not getting to it because Hani told me he was very confused and had a question about grammar. I was having a lot of trouble just understanding his question. I understood that he was asking about the present perfect and the present perfect continuous, but I just couldn't seem to grasp what he was specifically asking me. We struggled through questions for a while and I finally understood and told him the question he should have asked me, which was "How can I tell the difference between the present perfect and the present perfect continuous?" So then I had him make examples and I made some examples as well and we looked and the sentences to identify what was different about each of them. We worked on the present perfect the entire time because he was really struggling to understand. I had him write examples, I had him read examples and we had a conversation where I asked him questions where he had to use the present perfect to respond. Overall, it was good fro me to practice teaching grammar so much and I think he understood at least a little better. I'll quiz him next time I see him.
