Karinna- TS#5 Imani

I started off this tutoring session with Imani by reviewing what we learned the previous week.  By doing this I was able to boost his confidence, which I have previously mentioned is a struggle for Imani. Next we moved on to learning a couple of new letters and as usual, leaning their sound and words that start with that certain letter. I did some research before this tutoring session and learned that by Imani grade level (5th grade) he should know certain words known as "Dolch Words". I am worried Imani will start the 5th grade not knowing these list of words, so I began to slowly introduce the list. I did not want to overwhelm Imani with the long list of words so I made flash cards. I plan to introduce at least 5 new words each session from now on. In previous session Imani has asked me about math and I learned he really enjoys math. I wanted Imani to continue his passion with math, but I did not want it to intrude in our English time. Therefore, I purchased math workbooks for him that he can work on during his free time. I then collect his work the following session, check for errors at home, and then bring it back for Imani to review...during his free time of course!
