Ken TS #1 Ivan

I met with Ivan yesterday (7/12/17) for our first tutoring session. He had told me when we spoke earlier that he has a lot of anxiety when speaking, so that is what we focused on. We went to Proof Brewing company to talk over some beer.

We talked at length about the differences between Tallahassee and Barranquilla among other topics. Prevailing winds do not allow the formation of large cumulonimbus clouds in Barranquilla so even the clouds here are a novelty. I found that particularly interesting, something that I would have never considered.

He told me that Colombian cinema is not good, that there is only one good movie - but I have forgotten the name. I'll have to ask him when me next meet. I showed him a scene from Pulp Fiction and he seemed to enjoy it.

The Colombian school day begins at 6 A.M. and ends around 4 P.M., but there is a substantial gap in the middle of the day (2 hours is typical).

I corrected some of his speaking errors, but I felt as though I could have helped more. Next week, I plan on bringing him a vocab book to have a more structured tutoring session.

All in all, we both left pleased with our first meeting.
