This was my first time tutoring the children during a
weekday; usually I only tutor the children Saturday mornings, but since time is
limited I want to start meeting with them twice a week. Annie and Dylan
carpooled with me, and a couple of volunteers from the Refugee Outreach Program
were already there when we arrived. The two younger kids, Naomi and Oliver,
were too tired to do any formal activities; I think it was probably because
they had a long day, and they are more used to being tutored in the mornings.
We had a small whiteboard and markers that someone brought, so we played
hangman with the children; the game really got their attention, and we played
as a group. It was great to practice vocabulary through such a fun activity
that really engages the kids.
