Kate CP#2

Date/Time: July 12, 2017; 3:00pm
Location: Starbucks & My Dorm
Topics discussed: My conversation partner and I discussed college/dorm life, what we like to do for fun (hobbies/interests), Starbucks drink preferences, and a few cultural norms.
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: My partner and I discussed a few cultural and linguistic topics. One thing that I found interesting was that in his home country of Kuwait, the person on the right always goes through a doorway/path first. I thought that that was a helpful rule, since most people don't know what to do when walking with someone, and the situation can become somewhat awkward. I also learned how to say "hi" in Arabic: "Marhaban." My partner and I also talked about how non-native Arabic speakers would never be able to get certain sounds of the language right, and how Kuwaiti children play a game when they very young to make the correct sounds.
