Kristen TS#2

For my second tutoring session I came with 3 other TEFL students to a refugee home.  Our contact person, Coleen, helped us meet the family.  The parents, Innocent and Sifa, have several sons, at least 4 and maybe more.  My tutee's name is Crispin and I believe he is the youngest of the bunch. The family is from Uganda and speak Swahili.  The father seems to understand a little bit of English and the mother doesn't seem to know or speak any.  The boys seem to know a little bit more, but I'm not sure how much.

I believe I am Crispin's first tutor and he really seems to like the attention. I think he is 3 or 4 years old. He is a very opinionated boy and seems to have a lot of spunk. He knows what he wants.  He wanted to draw. I turned it into a game by asking him what the color of the ink was, what was he drawing, etc.  We also counted in English and named basic body parts (nose, mouth, ear, etc).  Since he likes to draw, I think I will bring drawing materials that can double for learning English.  It's difficult to keep him focused for long, but I think he will enjoy learning English if I turn it into a game.
