Last Wednesday (July 5th 2017), I met with Eduardo at Proof Brewing Company at Railroad Square. He was excited to go out and grab a beer with someone, since his wife (who is also in the CIES program) does not like to drink. After greetings and settling in we talked at length about a variety of topics including politics - Brazilian and American - dog breeds, our families, and our backgrounds. What I found most fascinating though is Eduardo's profession.
Eduardo is a professional pilot in his home country of Brazil. He works for several months of the year as a crop duster and has aspirations of starting a flight school. I told him I would be his first student. He has been flying planes since he was very young. Aviation is the family business. Eduardo's father was also a pilot but he was killed in an aviation accident. Both of his kids (he has a 12 year old daughter and a 10 year old son) have already flown planes too, keeping with the family tradition.
On the whole, Eduardo's english was very good. Our first visit was largely a social one, but he asked me to correct his mistakes going forward. I will keep this in mind for our next visit.
