On Tuesday I observed the 2A Listening class with Mr. Wilson. I took notes on how Mr. Wilson introduced the topic and led the class. It was very interesting to see how an English class is taught because it provides me with a model of how to teach my classes. Fist, Mr. Wilson went over the day's agenda and then he introduced the word of the day which was 'transform.' He made it interesting by asking the class if any of them had seen the movie "Transformers" and then he asked them all if they knew what that word meant. Then he drew a picture of a caterpillar and a butterfly and asked someone to use the word in a sentence. He then moved on to the main lesson where they were practicing note-taking by watching an advertising lecture. He phrased the exercise as learning note-taking to make it easier to understand listening. Then it was time to review and then they took a test. I was able to look at a spare test so I could see how he formatted to test as an example of ways to indirectly test the students understanding of the lecture. Overall, it was very informative to watch and observe a class.
