Kaitlin CP#1

On of my conversation partners is Abdulraham. We met outside of the CIES building and then went to go eat lunch at Vale. Abdul seemed very friendly and excited to hang out. He was very inquisitive about my my life and loved to converse. I learned from this experience that I should be more open to actively inquire about other cultures. There were many things about his country that I was clueless about and had never bothered to think about. For example, they do not have movie theaters where he lives in Saudi Arabia. I also learned that there is a language barrier that can be quite limiting to conversations. There were a couple times that Abdul could not think of the English word for his sentence, but since there were not context clues I also could not help him find the word he was looking for. During times like this I think it is important to be patient and kind. Maybe inquire a description of the word he is talking about to get a better idea of the word is looking for to try to help him.
