My third classroom observation was on Thursday afternoon for level 3B. It was a Listening class taught by Felicia Ciapetta. Felicia had the students find partners and discuss the previous class's listening assignment. I was paired up with a student named Said. He explained that the class was listening to a program about stress and how to manage it. He told me that one of examples from the program suggested exercise. He also told me that he was feeling stressed out the day before so he went to the gym and afterwards felt much better. I thought the listening exercise on stress was an excellent idea because the students are learning to apply the lesson outside the classroom and it will help them in the years to come.
After the group exercise, we listened to the program and the students were able to fill in more details that they heard. This was followed by another round of listening. This time the students were to listen for complex sentences and write them down.
After the class, Felicia was kind enough to talk to me for a few minutes. She suggested some good materials such as: "Listen to Learn" by Roni S. Lebauer and "Contemporary Topics".
