Topic/skill: Grammar (direct speech and reported speech)

Today Saad and I worked on preparing for his grammar quiz on direct speech vs. reported speech [another grammar aspect I was not familiar with, but was able to quickly figure out!]  For practice, I asked him questions (direct speech), and he wrote down what I said as reported speech (She said: "___."). Then, he brought up reductions--unknowingly--by asking me about some phrases he's heard in movies and on TV, that it sounded like: "Wah-jah." I repeated him a few times and realized he was referring to the reduction of "what did you" into a "whadja", which I wrote down for him to see on paper. He gets it. He's smart. He also just recently finished watching the final season of "House of Cards", and I know there are a lot of low-frequency vocabulary words he has to learn in order to follow along with that show! I encouraged him to keep watching shows/films along with English subtitles to facilitate increased accuracy and fluency in his spoken communication.
