Abdulrahman really
enjoys discussing controversial topics! He arrived to today's session armed
with the question: What do you think about gay marriage? Turns out, that is the
topic he chose to present at his next speaking class. Their assignment is to
choose a topic and present it to the class for discussion without sharing their
own opinion on the topic. At his request, I did share my liberal opinion on the
subject. He was very forthcoming in firmly saying that he does not agree with
it. Gay marriage is illegal in his country. Being gay is illegal in his
country. I asked him if he thought it would be difficult for him to say nothing
while the class debates his topic. He said no, and I told him I look forward to
hearing how it went the next time we see each other! We generated quite a
number of new vocabulary words, as usual, which I wrote down and gave to him to
take home.
