Annie TS #2

I met Hani on Monday, July 10th at Starbucks to start our first tutoring session. He is from Saudi Arabia and speaks Arabic. His spoken English is very good, although he has trouble with articles and the third person verb. However, his reading is very poor and he cannot write or spell very well without considerable effort. At first we chatted and got to know each other a little bit and then he told me what he needed to work on. I asked him to write me a letter about himself and I would do the same. We wrote for about 10 minutes. Then he read my letter to him and we underlined words he did not know. After reading my letter, I read his and we talked about spelling and missing articles. I wouldn't focus so much on spelling except that I literally could not understand some of the words he wrote. I gave him some homework to practice writing a few words and to write me a paragraph about his home city. Overall, he is a very eager and good natured student and we had a good time together.
