I met Hani at Starbucks at lunchtime. I had a level one article about these two men from Venezuela that were apparently 'riding' a whale shark behind a speedboat. I noted that all those words might be new to Hani, so before we read the article we talked about the ocean and sea creatures and boats so that he would be familiar with the general topic before we began the article. He really liked the article because it brought up again the confusion with 'conservation' and 'conversation' so we discussed that again. That was a good refresher. Then after we read the article we had a discussion about whether the men should be punished or not, which brought up many new words about justice and the law. We ended up talking about that for the rest of the time and then Hani had to run to class because he was a little late!
