Ken TS #8 Hope

Yesterday (8/5/2017) I met with Hope and her family. Last time we met was also the first time we met, so I didn't have much direction in my tutoring session - I wanted to see how much she already knew as to not bore her or overwhelm her.

We went over some animals last time and she enjoyed playing a game that I had where she had to guess animals, so I structured this tutoring session based around learning different animals.

I downloaded a set of animal ESL flashcards from online and coupled that with some worksheets and crossword puzzles.

I started the tutoring session by going through the flash cards and seeing whihch of the animals she already knew and the ones that were new to her. Then, after I learned which ones she was unfamiliar with, I pulled up youtube on my laptop and I showed her videos of the different animals.

Hope had never seen a pelican, or a shark before and she was impressed by the size of both (the pelicans mouth and the general size of the shark as a whole)

After watching some videos, I gave her some worksheets to work on and then focused my attention on her brothers.

At the end of the tutoring session, I went over the worksheets she had finished and then we played HeadsUP again. She did much better than the first time we played and many of the animals we studied were in the game (seal, dolphin, bear etc.)
