Alyssa B - CP #05 - Shuaihua

Conversation Session 05

Date: July 24, 2017
Time: 3:00pm – 5:00pm
Area: Sweet Shop
Conversation Partner: Shuaihua

So, today we went over what Claire had sent out. It was the “Iceberg Activity.” It was an activity that discussed the surface of our culture’s features and deeper meanings/heavier influences behind them. It was very interesting hearing the different sides of our cultures. In China, they dress relatively conservatively, unlike in America, haha, so that was one thing. Greeting people was another thing that was considerably different. We went over gift-giving, personal distance, concepts of time, holiday customs, beliefs of modesty, religious and spiritual beliefs, rules of politeness, food (of course), views on gender roles, classroom behavior, and gestures/nonverbal communication. As usual, he did most of the talking, haha. He’s always super enthusiastic about…well, everything.

I had to catch the bus at 5:00, and so did he, so we both rode the bus until I got off at Starbucks to tutor Dasom for the day. That’s it!
