Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: Mubarak and I met up at CIES's International Dinner for the end of the summer session. He was about to leave for a two week trip to visit his family before coming back to FSU/CIES in the Fall. We talked again about how close-knit Kuwaiti families generally are, and how much his mom misses him, even though he wasn't sure that the two 24hr flights were worth the trouble. We also talked about my job and how busy I'd been in the last week-- he was surprised to see how pack my schedule was! He also tried some different international foods-- I asked him if he liked them and he said they were good, but hinted that he was really only being polite. I learned that Kuwait City has a lot of international restaurants where rich Kuwaitis like to go and try different foods. When I left, we made plans to go to Cafe Shisha when he got back.
