So, today we first worked on some more
quoted-to-reported speech. Once again, she did perfectly fine. This one was
even more difficult than the others I’ve given her because she had to get them
out of a text and not just rewrite them. I had several of these exercises, and
while it was more challenging than the others, she had no problems completing
them without any mistakes.
After
that, we watched a TED Talks video that she had to answer several summary
questions about. Talk about a difficult concept to comprehend. It was about how
technology is advancing and how social media is ruining our lives by taking up
our time because they’re trying every tactic to outdo each other. Yeah, it was
pretty depressing, and I’m not surprised Dasom had a bit of a hard time
wrapping her head around some of these statements, because a lot of times they
were vague even for me—and I’m all about psychology and English, as well as a
little bit of business, which this speech had all of. Talk about a challenge.
Of course, I can’t just do it for her, so I mostly had to ask her first what he
said pertaining to the question, then ask how she thought contributed to that,
how it was related to something else, etc. A lot of times she asked if it was
right, but unfortunately I couldn’t simply tell her that! While she wasn’t
wrong, there were a few things I would have added or a few opinions I would
have backed up differently, but that’s up to her! For the most part, she did
extremely well, I think.
